What we do

Analytic studies on aspects of U.S. and international science, technology, and innovation policies, programs, and institutions

The core of TPI's work has been in-depth analyses of various aspects of U.S. science, technology, and innovation policies, programs, and institutions, all designed to provide a clear understanding of their rationales, origins, strengths, and limitations. We typically emphasize how the broader cultural, political and institutional environments of the United States are reflected in the steps it has taken. Our clients typically are seeking insight and guidance into whether and how the U.S. experience might be translated to and adopted in other circumstances.

Design and implementation of public R&D and innovation policies and programs

We can draw on our experiences in doing research and evaluation and in offering expert advisory services to governments, the non-profit sector, and universities in a number of U.S. contexts and in other countries to help agencies design and implement R&D funding and innovation support programs that can achieve regional and national goals.

Strategic planning/advisory services for research institutes and universities

We draw on our experience in academia and research organizations, as well as extensive strategic planning consulting and advising experience to produce client-specific, practical plans.

Workshops and short courses

We can build on our decades of teaching and training experiences at leading universities and in the non-profit sector to develop customized training workshops and short courses on a variety of topics in science and technology policy, technology transfer, innovation, research management, university-industry partnerships, and technology-based economic development.
